DUBAI — To ensure complete occupancy in hotels this summer, Dubai will be projecting itself as the ultimate spa destination during the Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) from June 21 to August 31. Dubai currently has 400 hotels with 40,862 rooms.

In a recent list of spas compiled by Leading Spas of the World, the first global evaluation and certification programme for the spa industry, three out of four luxury spas in the Middle East are located in Dubai. Dubai is also said to have one of the highest concentrations of spas per capita in the world.

Wellness care

Additionally, medical spas, offering both medical and wellness care in a spa environment, are aplenty in Dubai. As many as 17 medical spas are currently registered with the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM.)

Moreover, hotels in Dubai offering spa facilities are increasing at the rate of 17 per cent a year and industry insiders predict that by 2015, there could be more than 200 establishments offering world-class spa facilities.

“Dubai is aggressively promoting itself as a spa and wellness destination,” said Susan Amin, exhibition manager for the World Spa Exhibition. “The city has seen a huge growth in the number of such centres offering prescribed medical treatments. Dubai is not just one of the world’s top tourist destinations. It is also home to many high-class spas like the Six Senses Spa and Angsana Spa among others,” she added.

In the spa promotion both among locals as well as overseas visitors, DSS had unveiled special spa packages at 21 spas and hotels during the recently-held Arabian Travel Mart (ATM)..

Saeed Mohammed Al Nabouda, CEO, DSS, said: “This year, the spas are offering a wide spectrum of packages.”
