DUBAI — More volunteers have been recruited to help promote Dubai Summers Surprises 2007 with an increase in visitors passing through the tourist hub of the Middle East.

The manager of Airport Security Pass Directorate of Protocol and Public Relations, Sultan bin Toaq, said air traffic at the Dubai International Airport was increasing, with around 17 million travellers having used the facility since early this year till date. “We expect a further increase in the number of travellers over the coming months due to the far-reaching fame now enjoyed by the DSS all over the world,” he said.

Upon arrival at the airport, DSS tourists will be greeted by the DSS logo and the ever-smiling mascot, Modhesh, which adorn the airport premises.

“Since the launch of the DSS 10 years ago, we have always been keen to cooperate with the DSS Office in order to promote this leading regional event in a way that fits its distinguished standing. DSS reflects the deep-rooted traditions of UAE’s citizens and the country’s tourist potential,” said Sultan.

During this year’s edition of the DSS, free gifts, including the DSS logo and Modhesh merchandise would be given to all travellers, especially children, arriving at the airport during the two-and-a-half-month long mega event, he said.

“Children will be a lucky lot this year as we will provide them with a special lounge space where they would be able to get refreshments while their parents go to collect their bags.

Outbound passengers will also be seen off by Modhesh and transit passengers would enjoy special treatment and get a clear idea of the event.

“They will be updated on the event’s activities through promotion booklets and brochures available everywhere at the airport.

“Transit passengers will have a preview of the UAE heritage through the Heritage Photography Studio held at the Transit Hall for the first time this year, ” Sultan added.

Wide, high-resolution screens inside the airport will present DSS promotions as part of the continued advertising campaigns tailored to publicise the event among the largest possible number of tourists.
